Summer will be here before you know it, which means more time spent outdoors soaking up the sun. Especially if your next travel nursing assignment has you enjoying the beach! Hopping on a plane or taking a road trip doesn’t mean you have to resort unhealthy eating habits.
Try these tips on how to stay healthy while traveling.
Skip the sugary drinks and instead opt to drink water. Dehydration can turn into excess hunger. Traveling with protein and water can help prevent dehydration and fatigue, as well as excessive hunger and overeating.
Snacking every few hours on protein sources may help you avoid pit stops at fast food restaurants and convenience stores.
It’s important to eat balanced meals and to include a lean protein, such as fish, lean beef, poultry, eggs or tofu. To help with satiety, add some veggies to your plate. Don’t be tempted to eat large portions while traveling, although it can be tempting with endless options everywhere you go!
It’s a great idea to continue your typical exercise routine, however while traveling many people would rather use the time to relax and unwind. Just be sure to stay active to help prevent unhealthy habits from forming.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! The sun alone can lead to quicker dehydration. Keep a bottle of water with you to ensure you’re drinking enough.
Remember to stick to your healthy habits while you are traveling on assignment or enjoying some time off for summer!
