UNC Health Care is a not-for-profit integrated health care system owned by the state of North Carolina and based in Chapel Hill. UNC Health Care currently comprises UNC Hospitals and its provider network, the clinical programs of the UNC School of Medicine and eleven affiliate hospitals and hospital systems across the state.   • Pardee UNC Healthcare – 222 beds and has more than 230 physicians and specialists on the medical staff.
  •  UNC Lenoir Healthcare – 261 bed, not-for-profit hospital, with a medical staff of over 100 physicians, they offer a range of specialty services and technology you would only expect to find at hospitals in larger cities.
  • Wayne UNC Healthcare – 316 bed, has a team of more than 1,700 patient care providers and support staff, as well as more than 300 medical staff.

North Carolina is an Enhance Nurse Licensure Compact state, it can be simple to get a state nursing license. When applying for the license, select the option to include a temporary practice permit. The temp license typically arrives in 10-14 business days from the application date and lasts for 6 months while the permanent license is processed. Visit the NC Board of Nursing’s Gateway, a single portal used to submit and manage all licensure and listing applications including Advanced Practice Approvals:

Important to Note: Applicants will need licensure verification, using, for each state they hold a registered nursing license in. If verification is needed from a state that doesn’t use Nursys, it will take longer (i.e. California).


The Research Triangle comprises Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Wilmington, whose Riverwalk offers dining and shopping, is the gateway to the Cape Fear Coast beaches. 

You will want to visit the Outer Banks for the beaches, surfing and shipwreck diving. Spend a weekend at the Pisgah National Forest for camping and hiking. Take a drive to Chimney Rock at the State Park for the waterfall and rock climbing adventures.
